South America is a continent with an enormous heritage. In this place, it is possible to find pyramids from Aztecs, old cities with thousand years old like Machupichu or Chan Chan, cultures that in our days, we are still studding and we don’t know a half of them or simply we know nothing. This heritage is not only monumental, also is cultural and intangible heritage.
In a region of this continent, between the cities of Nazca and Palpa, there are some lines wrote on the desert of Nazca. These lines have 50 km of large and 15 km of width. These lines have zoomorphic designs, geometric designs, human designs, etc. The designs were built by the Nazca civilization between the centuries I and VII A.C. The especial characteristic of these lines is that they were built only in a line and in on hit. Also it is possible to see the line only in a plane or in some higher places close to the lines but it is not possible to see them well.
The first mention of the lines was by the historian Cieza de Leon in 1547, who mentioned the lines like roads. However the lines weren’t rediscovered until 1920-30, when the military and commercial planes start to pass over the desert. The UNESCO attached the lines of Nazca in 1994 as global human heritage. These lines are in dangerous now, because of the construction of highways or the use of the desert for different purpose like the Dakar’s race or the protest of Greenpeace
Currently, the explanation of these lines and their purpose is unknown, there are a lot of theories that explain the lines like ceremony rods, astrology calendar, adoration centres or protector symbols but no one is clear. In the present, the lines are in investigation to answer these questions.
We can say that South America is a continent with a lot of examples like the lines of Nazca and this is part of the South American heritage but also it is part of the human heritage.
