The national British library start a programme to digitalizes 1,5 millions of page about diaries from the first war world. These diaries will be available for everybody who wants read and study. currently, there are 300.ooo gigitalize pages in 1944 diaries.
The dairies speak about the occidental front. The first pages, which are now in the library, tell us about the first three divisions of cavalry and the first seven divisions of infantry in the British army. They were the first wave that fought in France and Flanders. These dairies are from the beginning to the leave of the conflict. They explain us them situation in real time.
These written tell about personal interpretation, heroic moments, personal feelings, jokes, description of activities, between others. Also it is possible to consult the command, maps, description of activities and drawing. For example, the British captain James Patterson wrote “I have never had and will have again others 48 hours like these”.
This project asks for the open cooperation of volunteers to rebuilding the stories. This colaboration is calling “be part of history” and try to find “civil historian” for classifing the stories inside the diaries in key words like places, date, names, etc. As well the national British library is looking for more dairies from the people who wants participate in this plan. There are others orgnization that participate in this project as Imperial Museum of the War and theproject Zooniverse.
The importance of this project is the big work to digitize the written and the cooperation of the population to do it.
